Russian stocks may rise on positive backdrop, strong crude, gas

MOSCOW, Sep 23 (PRIME) -- The Russian stock market may rise at the opening on Thursday, owing to global positivity, as well as supported by strong oil, gas dynamics, analysts said.

“The external background is moderately positive this morning. U.S. indices remained at approximately the same levels. Asian markets are trading mostly in the positive territory today,” Vasily Karpunin, chief analyst at BCS Investment Group said.

“The Russian market is going to go up again this morning, the external background is favorable,” Alexei Antonov of Alor Broker said.

Antonov added that the oil and gas sector “is going to be better than the market again.” Oil gained 0.4% and is trading around U.S. $76.5 per barrel.

Antonov believes that in the near future the markets will enter a phase of high volatility, and drawdowns will not be paid back very quickly.

The Russian ruble is facing new risks of sanctions, so no strong rise is expected from the Russian currency today, Antonov said.
